PROCEDURES

Members are reminded of the need to observe the Code of Practice at all times. In addition, attention is drawn to our Interpreting Procedures. At all times when engaged on behalf of Bournemouth Interpreters’ Group CIC (whether directly or centrally), members are fully covered by the Group’s public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

Members should note that whether engaged directly by a service provider using the online Register or by the Group through the central booking system their status is that of a self-employed sessional worker and as such each member retains individual responsibility for any tax liability and National Insurance contributions.

In an attempt to help providers by standardising Group member invoices, please find here a suggested model invoice to adapt accordingly.  Simply replace the parts in red with your own details.  You can of course add further details you feel necessary, or omit lines which do not apply. Further detailed guidance on invoicing was sent to members in summer 2014. If you require a copy of this, please contact us.

FEEDBACK

At Bournemouth Interpreters' Group we value all feedback on interpreting assignments from both Service Providers and Members. Feedback is used to improve and develop the service we provide to the local community, as well as in conjunction with other quality control measures.

After an interpreting assignment please take a few moments to fill in and submit the simple feedback form.  All feedback is treated in strictest confidence.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

It is advisable to keep a record of all assignments attended – both for your own reference and to demonstrate accumulated experience. You can download this Interview Record Form which will help you manage your community interpreter work.

Members are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities offered locally, regionally or nationally to further their interpreting skills.  Evidence of self-development can of course be used by Associate Members to upgrade their status to Full Member, but continued professional development is beneficial to all. For example, members with the Certificate in Community Interpreting may wish to consider studying for the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting.

The Bournemouth Interpreters’ Group aims to offer training workshops to members as the needs arises, and these will be publicised on this website.  We shall also endeavour to provide locally-sourced online resources to make it easier to prepare for interpreting assignments in various contexts.
