PARTNERSHIP before PROFIT
BIG is a not-for-profit organisation. As a Community Interest Company regulated by the CIC Regulator all profits are reinvested in furtherance of our community aims. Our primary purpose is to fulfil a clear need within the area to facilitate the provision of interpreting services in the public and voluntary sectors, enabling professional and client to communicate to their mutual satisfaction, while providing a focal point for the many individual interpreters operating in this field.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
With our multilingual and multicultural foundations we can actively support the promotion of community cohesion. Our use of locally-based member-interpreters also ensures that any money spent on language services remains within the local economy, and with service rates agreed with local providers we provide a cost-effective solution when the need for an interpreter arises. In using our services clients can thus fulfil their own goals in terms of social responsibility. Meanwhile minority language service users can be assured of full access to public services in order to maintain and improve their health and well-being, their education and quality of life – thus supporting their full integration into the local community. And we don’t just interpret – we are also active in local consultations and decision-making forums, providing a direct input into the delivery of services for minority language speakers.
A CO-OPERATIVE APPROACH
All bona fide public and voluntary sector bodies can register to use our direct-access Find an Interpreter facility. Provider registration to use our service is simple and free, and with the User ID allocated providers can access the contact details of all interpreters on the Register, liaise directly with them and book their services. Payment is then made directly to interpreters, according to an agreed scale. When using this procedure, the Group does not function as an Agency, but we are happy to provide central advice and assistance.
At the request of some providers we also offer a hassle-free central booking alternative with a very modest administrative surcharge. This option frees up the service provider to concentrate on their own work in the knowledge that their request will be dealt with promptly, reliably and efficiently. Please contact us for full details.
We are also happy to service requests from commercial/business organisations, including language agencies, and from private individuals. More details of this aspect of our services can be found on our parallel website at www.bournemouthinterpreters.com – or simply contact us with your requirements.
